Global Ports Holding (GPH), the world's largest independent cruise port operator, is pleased to announce the appointment of Emilio Vázquez Villanueva as General Manager of Acapulco Cruise Port, Mexico.
The appointment marks another important milestone following GPH's recent acquisition of the 24-year concession to operate and develop Acapulco Cruise Port and reinforces the company's commitment to supporting the long-term growth of one of Mexico's most iconic cruise destinations.
Emilio Vázquez Villanueva brings extensive experience across the private and public sectors, with a strong background in international trade, economic development, logistics, tourism and port management. Throughout his career, he has held senior commercial leadership positions and led international trade promotion initiatives before joining the Administration of the National Port System (ASIPONA) in Acapulco as Commercial Manager in 2023.
During his time at ASIPONA, Emilio played a key role in advancing the Port of Acapulco’s development, supporting cargo and cruise operations and helping strengthen the destination’s position within Mexico’s port and tourism landscape. He subsequently served as Subsecretary of Tourism Promotion for the State Government's Ministry of Tourism, where he continued to promote the region's tourism and economic development.
As General Manager of Acapulco Cruise Port, Emilio will lead GPH's operations in Mexico, working closely with cruise lines, government authorities and local stakeholders to enhance operational excellence, strengthen the passenger experience and support the continued development of Acapulco as a leading cruise destination on Mexican Riviera itineraries.
Mike Maura, Jr. Regional Director, Americas, Global Ports Holding, said:
"We are delighted to welcome Emilio to Global Ports Holding. His extensive experience in port operations, tourism and stakeholder engagement, together with his deep understanding of Acapulco, make him exceptionally well positioned to lead our newest port. We look forward to working together as we continue investing in Acapulco's future and strengthening its position as one of the Pacific region's premier cruise destinations."
Emilio holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Fiscal Planning and International Taxation. He is married and the proud father of one son.
