Global Ports Holding Plc (GPH) is proud to announce that it has selected the hospital ship charity, Mercy Ships, to be its partner for this year’s Global Run event, the eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona.
This year marks the 10th edition of Global Run, which is an initiative sponsored by GPH – the world’s largest cruise port operator – to promote global collaboration, peace and understanding. It will take place on 10 February 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. The previous Global Run, the ‘Global Ports Marabana, Cuba’, attracted more than 6,000 participants from 52 countries.
Mercy Ships is a non-profit, international development organisation that deploys hospital ships to some of the poorest countries in the world, delivering free healthcare to people in need. In addition to completing thousands of urgent operations onboard its ‘floating hospital’, Mercy Ships volunteers also work closely with host nations to improve the way healthcare is delivered. Mercy Ships is fundraising during the eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona, under the motto of ‘Run for Hope’. GPH has committed to match every incoming donation for the ‘Run for Hope’ initiative.
Emre Sayın, CEO of Global Ports Holding, commented:
“We are delighted to sponsor Global Run and to partner with Mercy Ships. As the world’s largest cruise port operator, GPH is proud of Global Run’s ethos of cross-cultural understanding. Mercy Ships is an important charity that delivers vital medical care in some of the world’s poorest communities and we wish them all the best in their endeavours.”
Gerardo Vangioni, CEO of Mercy Ships Spain, commented:
"We are very honored and thankful to Global Ports Holding for choosing Mercy Ships Spain as their charity of choice for the Global Run Event, the eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona. This partnership will contribute without any doubt to bring awareness of the humanitarian work carried out by Mercy Ships, bringing hope and healing to those more in need.
