In celebration of International Day for Women in Maritime, Nassau Cruise Port (NCP) proudly welcomed female students from the LJM Maritime Academy for an educational seminar designed to inspire and empower the next generation of women in maritime. The event, held on Friday, May 16, 2025, brought together students, educators, and industry professionals for an engaging and informative session on career pathways in the maritime sector.
Speakers from Nassau Cruise Port included Jade Evans-Young, Assistant Operations Manager; Kisty Fox, Assistant Security Manager; and Marques Williams, Operations Manager. They were joined by experts from across the local maritime community, including Shante Pearson, Second Officer, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line; Juliana Rolle, Owner of EnJuNew Designs; Kenia Nottage, Government Legal Consultant; and Paige Bastian, Sustainability Officer, Arawak Port Development.
During the first half of the seminar, Jade, Shante, and Juliana shared their experiences in seafaring roles, discussing the technical skills required for life at sea, personal safety considerations, and career pathways. Kenia, Kisty, Marques, and Paige then explored the impact of administrative roles on global shipping and cruise operations, policymaking, leadership, and technology in modern maritime logistics and governance. Through these sessions, the students gained firsthand exposure to career opportunities in this vital sector.
Dr. Brendamae Cleare, President of LJM Maritime Academy, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating: "Education is the foundation of a successful maritime career.
